Safe Haven Dementia Centre is delighted to confirm that local massage therapist, Debbie Arthurs, will be offering her holistic massage therapies at the centre. She will be providing our clients with the opportunity to book either a 15 or 30-minute massage session, concentrating on hands, shoulders, the neck and scalp.

Debbie has been a massage therapist for over 10 years, and has worked at local nursing home, Catherine Court, regularly for the past four years. Catherine Court cares for people with all levels of dementia, and some of the residents that she works with are based on the Elderly Mentally Infirm Unit (EMI), where behavior issues can be challenging.

Debbie has proved that she has the right approach required when dealing with such issues, and has achieved some excellent results through her gentle holistic massage therapies, often helping to improve the mood of residents who have been struggling to cope. The therapies can help to significantly reduce anxiety and confusion, and the feedback received from the families of the residents has been extremely positive, and they continue to request regular treatments due to the ongoing benefits that their loved ones feel after the sessions.

Many research studies show that massaging the hands, shoulders, neck and scalp is a very beneficial treatment because it induces a sense of wellbeing and calmness within the individual. Gentle massage can relieve stress and anxiety, especially within our elderly circle, and also helps with pain management and arthritis. Owing to the gentle techniques used, massage greatly stimulates communication and relaxation, which is of great benefit to those suffering from dementia.

Debbie also has a long-standing connection with Carers Bucks, where she offers her treatments to carers in need of respite from the challenging situations that they face in their daily working lives, and so is also very keen to offer her services to clients and carers at Safe Haven.

She undertook the majority of her training at Wycombe College, but to enhance her skills further she completed post-graduate courses at Middlesex School of Complimentary Medicine.
